The new Lord Stirling
Community School is being built as a redevelopment project by Devco
in accordance with the New Jersey Local Housing and Redevelopment
Law. It will be the first privately developed school in New Jersey.
Upon completion, it will be wholly owned by the New Brunswick Board
of Education and will not only provide for a new state-of-the-art
school facility, but will also be an important link for future revitalization
efforts in the Lower George Street area. This project has been recognized
by representatives of the New Jersey State Legislature for its unique
approach to planning, financing, and constructing school facilities,
making it a model for future school construction projects throughout
New Jersey. The new Lord Stirling Community School will provide
facilities for 400 students, grades Pre-K through 5, and will also
offer a middle school for grades 6 through 8 with an expanded arts
program.
