John J. Heldrich is well-recognized as "the heart and driving
force" behind the revitalization of the city of New Brunswick.
The Heldrich, and the adjacent Center for Workforce Development,
honors his civic vision and commitment to community involvement.
Heldrich retired from Johnson & Johnson in 1991 as corporate
vice president of administration after four decades of service.
During that time he became recognized as a leader on a broad range
of public policy issues. His service to the state is deep and varied.
Mr. Heldrich served on the transition team for three governors,
chaired the New Jersey State Commission on Employment and Training,
and has been active at his alma mater, Rutgers - The State University
of New Jersey. Local efforts include invaluable work on behalf of
the New Brunswick Cultural Center, New Brunswick Development Corporation,
and New Brunswick Tomorrow. Due to these good works, and others,
in 1990, Business for Central New Jersey called him "the man
who saved New Brunswick."
