Gregg LeFevre
Advertising imagery -- idealized, manipulated, and perfected
-- has always held great interest for photographer Gregg LeFevre.
For more than a decade, he has been documenting New York City
and its inhabitants vis-à-vis street advertising imagery.
His work appears at first to be a manipulated collage: combinations
of images of the city, its architecture, advertisements and
pedestrians. In fact, the work is straightforward street photography
which attempts to portray contemporary life through juxtapositions
between the sex and glamour found in commercial advertisements
and the chaotic assortment of urban lifestyles. LeFevre's
photography can be seen in the Spa at The Heldrich.
