Big sky and the often unnoticed industrial landscape are important
themes in the acrylic paintings of photorealist Tim Daly of Hoboken.
This artist does not attempt to tell a story with his images, but
rather to set a mood through the use of light and shadow. Daly depicts
the convergence of the highways, marshland, and industry in New
Jersey, known as the Meadowlands. Often these paintings tell a story
of areas in transition due to development or decay, and their relationship
to larger ecosystems and urban areas. Daly photographs unusual views
and suggestive locations and then pieces the scenes together in
his studio. In Daly's point of view in New Brunswick at Twilight,
Early Fall 2006, both the skyline and the Raritan River stretch
to the darkening horizon but are anchored by transit bridges. It
shows a time of change in a city with strong regional connections
but where anything is possible. The painting is typical of the artist's
ability to use glazing techniques to create paintings that approach
photograph reality. Mr. Daly's pieces are also installed in each
of the guest rooms at The Heldrich.
